Photobook Club Seoul presents #109 곽범석의 밤바다 & East Sea | Beomseok KWAK's Night Sea and East Wind
KWAK said he made an attempt to address questions on how objects around him are viewed by the photographer himself in <Night Sea> series. What should draw attention here is the ‘photographer himself.’ His intention to ‘take photos of what he experiences within’ is also valid in <East Wind>, so his photography of the sea is not the act of speaking aside on the stage by keeping the audience in mind but his own monologue of saying back to what he heard from the sea.
His Photography that began from his monologue deserves careful attention due to the small voice as of yet. It is hoped that the voice he speaks could be clear enough to be audible from afar to hear what he has to share with us.

밤바다 시리즈에서 작가는 주위의 대상들이 사진작가인 자신에게 어떻게 보이는가에 대한 의문을 풀어보기 위한 시도를 했다고 한다. 여기서 눈여겨 보아야 할 것은 ‘사진작가인 자신'이다. “그 안으로 체험되어 들어가 있는 사진을 찍고 싶은" 것은 East Wind에서도 유효하니 그의 바다 사진은 관객을 염두에 둔 방백이 아니라, 바다의 말을 곱씹어 자신에게 건네는 독백이다.
독백에서 시작한 그이 사진은 아직까지는 목소리가 작아서 이야기를 들을려면 귀를 기울여야한다. 언젠가는 멀리서도 들리는 또렷한 목소리로 전하는 작가의 이야기를 들을 수 있게 되기를 기다려본다.
