Photobook Club Seoul presents #56 탁인아의 Plastic eye, In-Ah TAK’s Plastic eye.

탁인아가 찍은 이 동물들은 가짜 동물들이다. 그것은 모사물이다. 시뮬라크라는

실제로는 존재하지 않는 대상을 존재하는 것처럼 만들어놓은 인공물, 모사물을

지칭한다. 이 모사물simulacra들은 바로 시물레이션, 즉 모사과정의 산물인데,

보드리야르에 따르면 이 모사물은 이제 흉내낼 대상, 원본이 없어진 모사물들이

실재보다 더욱 더 실재 같은 극 실재를 생산한다. 즉 시물레이션이 사회적으로 잘

지배하고 모델이 현실적인 것에 선행하며 사회를 극 실재로서 구성하는 것이다.

오늘의 우리 사회는 기호가 실재를 더 가속적으로 대체하고 있고, 실재란 없으면

실재의 환각만을 제공하는 모사물에 의해 둘러싸여 있는 것이다. 동물들이란

자연속에서 자연스럽게 그들이 본성대로 살아가는 것인데 인간의 필요에 의해 도시

공간에 박제되어 있는 인공의 동물, 가짜 환영, 모조물로 대체되어 있다. 이

플라스틱 동물 형상은 어느 날 느닷없이 작가의 눈에 다가왔다. 작가는 그런

동물들을 이곳저곳에서 만났으며, 이후 작가는 그것들을 찾아 나섰다. 친근하고

무섭고 흉측하고 낯설고 반갑다. 복잡한 양가적 감정이 밀려든다. 작가는 그것을

사진으로 촬영함으로써 자신이 받은 기이하고 낯선 감정을 처리한다. 작가는 우리의

현실 풍경 곳곳에 지뢰처럼 자리한 다소 이상하고 불가해한 모조물들의 현존과

실재의 부재, 자연의 상실에서 오는 괴리감을, 그 불편함을 사진으로 포착하여

잡아두는 것이다. ‘시각적 묘사의 수사법을 통해 사물을 붙잡아’ 두는 것이다.

The photographs taken by Tak In-ah are fake animals. They are replicas.

Simulacra refers to replicas of real things made to pretend they really exist.

These simulacras are products of simulation, or replicating process. According

to Baudrillard, these replicas produce extreme reality due to the absence of the

original animals they were copied from. Differently put, simulation dominates

the society, and the model precedes the reality, forming the society into

extreme reality. In today’s society, symbols are replacing the reality in an

accelerated increments, and we are surrounded by replicas that provide

hallucination of reality. Animals are meant to live in nature according to their

instinct, but they are replaced with stuffed animals, fake illusion, and replicas

by needs of the humans. These plastic animal sculptures caught the eye of the

writer one day. The writer saw those animals here and there, and the writer set

out to find more of them. They are familiar, scary, ugly, unfamiliar, and nice to

see. The writer captures presence and absence of reality, and feeling of

estrangement from the loss of nature in rather strange and incomprehensible

replicas, by taking their photographs. The writer captures things through

investigative methods of visual depiction.
